Position: Lead Pastor for the Cantonese Congregation
Location: Mandarin Baptist Church of Los Angeles (MBCLA)
Principal Function
To faithfully shepherd God’s people, working collaboratively with the pastors, ministers, and lay leaders of MBCLA under the direction of the Senior Pastor to fulfill the mission and ministry of MBCLA.
Qualifications
- Southern Baptist Affiliation, or full alignment with the Baptist Faith and Message (Yr. 2000 version).
- Master of Divinity Degree from an accredited theological seminary, or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years of ministry experience in a North American Chinese Church, or equivalent.
- Cantonese as primary language, proficiency in English, with Mandarin fluency considered a plus.
- Ordained pastor preferred.
- U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or valid authorization to work in the U.S.
- Spiritual and emotional maturity as stated in 1 Timothy 3:1-13 and Titus 1:5-9.
Responsibilities
- To provide vision and direction for the Cantonese Congregation under the guidance from the Senior Pastor and in alignment with the overarching vision of the church.
- To preach and to teach in Cantonese.
- To supervise and to equip other ministers and lay leaders serving in the Cantonese Congregation.
- To develop lay leaders and collaborate with them to achieve the missions of the Church.
- To provide pastoral care to the congregation.
- To lead evangelism efforts in the local neighborhood, nearby communities, and through global missions.
- To make disciples of Christ.
- To attend UDB and Church Council meetings.
- To perform relevant administrative duties as required to fulfill ministerial functions.
- To perform any other tasks as directed by the Senior Pastor.
Working Relation with Church Leaders
- To be accountable directly to the Senior Pastor.
- To collaborate with other ministers, and lay leaders.
- To contribute to the team spirit of the entire MBCLA church staff (pastoral and administrative) with an open line of communication for the mutual sharing of concerns, counsel, prayer, and spiritual development both within and outside weekly staff meetings.
Compensation Range
- $70,000 – $85,000/annum, plus benefits including medical/dental insurance coverage.
- Salary is commensurate with theological education, qualifications, experience and other factors.
