Many of you have seen images of a disaster caused by high winds and wildfire the last few days, and happening right now in Southern California. As I write this email, news media reported that the five wildfires in the region had burned through more than 35,000 acres, with more than13,000 buildings and homes destroyed and more than 100,000 people under evacuation orders. While the scope of the destruction is not known at this time, we can rightly assume that it will include many churches and homes of our brothers and sisters in the affected region, and the possible loss of lives and livelihood before this sad episode is over. The California Southern Baptist Convention (CSBC) has put its Disaster Relief volunteer teams on standby, waiting for the situation to ease up and assist where needed, and they are waiting for deployment.
We are appealing to you to open your hearts and wallets to help our brothers and sisters during their time of need. We are partnering with the CSBC in this endeavor, to raise funds nationally and allow us the opportunity to share in caring and loving our brothers and sisters and our neighbors in need. All the funds received will be channeled to CSBC for this Disaster Relief.
